Whereas the Council of the Municipality of Casselman received a letter from MPP Waterloo Catherine Fife requesting support for Bill 21, Fixing Long-Term Care Amendment Act (Till Death do Us Part), 2022. Whereas Bill 21 has the objective to amend Residents' Bill of Rights set out in section 3 of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 by adding the rights of residents not to be separated from their spouse upon admission but to have accommodation made available for the couple in order to continue to live together and maintain their relationship, even while receiving long-term care. Whereas the Council of the Municipality of Casselman allocates importance to the many contributions that older adults have made and care deeply that they can live their final years with dignity and love. Now therefore, be it resolved that the Council of the Municipality of Casselman formally supports Bill 21, 2022 to amend the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 to provide spouses with the right to live together in a home.
